Post Pop Depression ese es el título del último disco de Iggy Pop. Junto con Matt Helders, batería de Arctic Monkeys, y Hosh Homme, Queens of the Stone Age, Iggy Pop nos trae la depresión umbría y rabiosa del post pop. A sus 68 años Iggy Pop, que ha señalado el disco como el último de su carrera, homenajea musical y líricamente a diversas figuras del pop, introduce preguntas de corte existencial y realiza una descripción del panorama actual.
De muerte y sexo hablan principalmente las letras como dos pulsiones intercomunicadas cuyos canales y conductos nos dirigen a una serie de reflexiones sobre el pop, su evolución y resultado, sobre la pervivencia del hombre en el tiempo, la vejez y la degradación. Nos encontramos con un texto que no duda en expresar el contenido como una sentencia grave y con autoridad. El mensaje es directo y nítido. Así encontramos una serie de versos que definen y dan contorno al disco. Consecuentemente, los sonidos limpios y esotéricos acompañan al contenido mostrando una serie de referencias musicales que tienen mucho que ver con el Iggy Pop de «The Idiot» y «Lust for Life» , Bowie, Queens of the Stone Age o The Strokes. Las distorsiones rodean la palabra que causa el escalofrío, con todo lo que ello implica. El verso raja la melodía mostrándonos en bandeja el desengaño: una verdad contundente que desafía.
Comenzando por una «Breaking into your heart» declarando con los dientes apretados una situación en el mundo, pasando por «Gardenia», en el que Iggy Pop se define como el mejor poeta del momento, llegamos a una «American Valhalla» inquietante y sarcástica que da paso a «In the Lobby» , «Sunday» y «Vulture», tres digresiones sobre la muerte. La oscura «German Days» junto con «Chocolate Drops» irónicamente dulce y «Paraguay», el triunfo del individuo, ponen el punto final al disco.
Post Pop Depression constituye pues un álbum ecléctico como el buen producto posmoderno que es. Con rabia contenida pero también ternura, desesperación y optimismo Iggy Pop se autoafirma y señala con el dedo, desde su situación vital, a un mundo que no quiere que le olvide.
